South Molton in Devon is Twinned with Livarot in France. Every year the two towns meet alternating between the two. This year we went across to Livarot. The rest of the year we hold a number of events any money raised being put towards the next years main twinning event. Events include Bar-B-Q's, Themed Meals, Day Walk on Exmoor, Pic Nic, Fireworks Party, Xmas Party in fact a lot of eating and drinking .
You don't have to be able to speak french to join (I don't) though it certainly helps when the French come across and vice versa, you soon learn to use sign language and those that can, help you out. If you learnt french at school however long ago you'll soon find yourself picking up pigeon french.
We meet at 7.30pm, every second Thursday of the month, at the George Hotel in South Molton, normally in the upstairs room, excepting August when most people are on holiday . So why not come along and meet us, we don't bite honest (well most of us don't ). We welcome people of all ages young and old.
If you'd like to speak to one of us email firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Cllr Lock signed a "Sister City Memorandum of Understanding" with the Shama District of Ghana at a ceremony witnessed by a Durbar of Chiefs. The sistership agreement was also signed by district co-ordinating director David Hammond on behalf of the Shama District Assembly, and Prince Kwame Kludjeson, president of the African Global Sister Cities Foundation. It is hoped the partnership will encourage exchange programmes between students, teachers and organisations including councils, police, churches, sports teams and the local media. Both communities can expect to gain from cultural exchanges, tourism and business opportunities which will arise through the partnership.
The Shama District was carved out of the former Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly. It is bordered to the North by the Mpohor Wassa East District, to the South by the Gulf of Guinea, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly to the West (all in the Western Region) and Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abirem District to the East in Central Region.
Schools, churches, businesses, parish councils and different organisations have agreed to investigate ways of communicating with similar groups in Shama and it is hoped that exchanges will take place in the near future.
