SMTC Weekly Report 6/4/18
By Andrew Coates, Town Clerk, Apr 6 2018 02:42PM
Items of importance dealt with week commencing 2nd April 2018
Visitor Information Centre
New stock has arrived plus an additional display stand given by Publicity South West who advertise brochures all over the County. People are now realising where the Centre is located and the footfall has increased considerably even so far this year. New books will also be arriving before the main season.
Chip and PIN Machine
The new credit card machine in the Amory Centre is being installed next week. We do get a lot of enquiries to pay by card so it should be useful for many individuals.
RFU Junior Vase Victory
Congratulations are in hand to the South Molton rugby team who have managed to clinch a Twickenham final after their victory over Surrey based team Chipstead. The South Molton team will face Yorkshire Club Old Otliensians at Twickenham on Sunday 6th May. I have written a letter of congratulation to the Chair of the Rugby Club and a congratulatory piece will be uploaded to the web-site.
Bunting and Lights across the Enhancement
I have asked for a quote to be put together for Bunting and Christmas lights to be placed diagonally across the Enhancement and part way down South Street with anchors being put on the Enhancement facing buildings which will give the required height. This quote will be going to the Finance Meeting in April.
I had a one hour telephone conference yesterday with a solicitor regarding the new regulations for Data Protection coming into force, in theory, on 25th May 2018. During the audit it did transpire that our Council is a low risk enterprise and therefore does not need to appoint a designated Data Officer. However a slight caveat in that the legislation is still in draft form and may change. As a consequence I have also asked other organisations who hold data on our behalf to provide me with their GDPR methodology. We do not now need the GDPR audit as we have completed the required provisions as they stand at the moment.
Dog Poo Bins
The ten new dog bins will be ordered next week and Jacqui Eaton has found a great deal with a new company and the bins are £54 each which will be a good financial saving for the Council.
There are no scheduled meetings next week. However the Finance Meeting will be held on Monday 16th April in the Town Hall and a Planning meeting on Tuesday 17th April in the Amory Centre.
I and the Mayor will be attending a Town Council conference in Frome next Thursday which has a varied agenda relating to Town Council business.
