SMTC Weekly Report 5/1/18
By Andrew Coates, Town Clerk, Jan 8 2018 10:18AM
Items of importance dealt with week commencing 1st January 2018
Reply from Peter Heaton-Jones
I have received a reply from the Local MP after the letter the Town Council wrote regarding Fairer Funding for schools and following the meeting the Council and Head Teachers had in the Amory Centre before Christmas.
After reading the article in the South Molton News regarding the meeting the Council and NDC had regarding a Food Village Concept I will be writing a letter to the paper explaining what actually happened in the meeting. Basically the Council has not made a single commitment on this issue and in fact before Christmas I had informed the Land Agent to do no further work on this and that the Council would wait to see if NDC had any proposal to put forward and then take it from there. There will be no extra costs at this stage from the Town Council.
Nadder Lane and 40 mph and 30 mph Speed Limit Order
Please find attached the proposed Order for the reduction in speed limits for the Nadder Lane section on the B 3227. Any comments on this should be completed by 25th January 2018.
Letter from RBS
I had a reply letter from RBS after I wrote to them regarding the proposed bank closure in June this year. It is a pretty standard letter sent to people who are complaining about the closure.
Workshop and Garage Adjacent to Tennis Courts Mill Street
I have been asked by Stephen Berry whether there would be any interest in the Town Council purchasing this site for re- development. If any Councillor knows much about this please let me know as I know very little about it. It used to be known as Larsen’s Workshop. There are no details as such yet.
Land Estates Issues
It has been a quiet week on this front and the Land Agent has not been around so there is no update on the grant for PBP 4. The required information including the land valuation has been submitted on time so we are still awaiting a response.
Wednesday 10th January at 2.00pm in Amory Centre- Informal Meeting of Councillors to discuss appointment of Land Agent at end of January. This will include a short presentation from the existing land agent and one other candidate. This will be followed by a discussion with Pauline Miller present regarding the booking of the Winter Wonderland Event before the subject goes to the Policies Committee for a decision on future policies on booking of events.
Wednesday 10th January in Amory Centre at 6.30pm – Neighbourhood Plan Meeting.
Thursday 11th January- Election for new Town Councillor from 7.00am to 10.00pm . The count will take place after 10.00pm and should only last one hour.
Andrew Coates, Town Clerk.
