Items of importance dealt with week commencing 29th October 2018
Poppies Around Town
The maintenance staff are continuing to put the large poppies around the Town and this should be finished today and tomorrow. I had ordered another 50 large poppies which are the ones going up at the moment. There are also two benches which have been made for us each with the names of those who lost their lives in the first and second world being etched on the back of the bench. I have suggested these are situated on the left hand side of the Pannier Market where the two benches are now placed. There is also a spotlight now above these benches which will highlight them when they are in place.
Xmas Light Switch On
Only two weeks to go before our light switch on and firework display. North Devon Children’s Hospice have been invited as our designated charity for the evening and they will be giving a small talk before the actual switch on. We might also have a band member of Inglorious ( they have recently moved into nearby South Molton) performing but this is still not yet guaranteed. The Xmas tree is being installed on Monday and despite rumours I am not putting the cone in the square this year I think it looks good in the Meddlers Corner.
10th Anniversary of the Amory Centre
The Anniversary of the Amory centre was held yesterday in the Foyer and it was a great success. The selling of the cakes generated £60 for the CAB Charity and the library are having a party this Saturday at 1.00pm.
We are still trying to accommodate the Mens Shed in the cemetery workshop but we are experiencing a slight problem in locating the large sit on mowers.
I am now Chapter 8 Accredited with regard road closures and I have reviewed the signs we have and have ordered what we require for a full and legal road closure. The advance notice for the fireworks display will be going out next week.
There are no scheduled meetings next week. The Planning meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 13th November.
Andrew Coates, Town Clerk.
